Abstract

The basic scenario of the power system recovery after catastrophic failure is to start the thermal power units that have been shut-down in an emergency by supplying voltage and starting power from self-starting hydroelectric power plants. The consequence of implementing such a plan is the formation of a local island system powered by the hydro plant units in parallel with a turboset of the started thermal power plant. The paper presents the results of measurements recorded in a system test of starting a 264 MW unit at the Turów Power Plant with input from Dychów hydro electric Plant. In particular, the ability to synchronize the unit started at Turów with the hydro sets at Dychów loaded with auxiliaries and pumps was assessed.
