Methodology for Identifying the Most Effective MV Grid Investment Projects with Consideration of Grid Reliability Analyses

Abstract







The article presents an algorithm for searching the set of the most effective projects of investment in medium voltage (MV) grids. The projects are selected to reduce the number and duration of power outages and to eliminate or reduce the existing or future voltage and load threats. The projects include the construction of new reduction points and new MV grid elements, upgrades of existing facilities, and applications of ICT (Information and communications technology) to increase the MV network operation observability and controllability. This study is a result of the experience of the Institute of Gdańsk Division in implementing the concept of MV grid development for a distribution system operator (DSO). The concept analyses the operating conditions of the 6 kV, 15 kV, 20 kV, and 30 kV grids supplied from over two hundreds kV/MV transformer substations.
