Abstract

The Vistula River constitutes a very important environmental and spatial element of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. Its functioning and previous use cause many serious problems. Consequently, river development and full use of its values have become one of the most important aims of regional politics of the Voivodeship government. Construction of another barrage on the Vistula River below Włocławek is the priority. It should bring many measurable benefits in the social and economic sphere, as well as the environment. Ultimately, full river exploitation is assumed through construction of subsequent barrages and associated infrastructure, enabling the use of the waterway, tourism and use of water resources for agriculture.
